Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Michel Gondry)
summer cinema
Tuesday 21. August 2012, 8.30pm
A romantic-surrealistic sci-fi (nearly detective) drama, made by master of dreams - Michel Gondry, breaks the continuity of time and space and replaces it with an associative linking of fragments, all coming from different layers of the mind. A reconstruction of relationship between Joel and Clementine, which is narrated backwards. Excentric Clementine decides to get rid of Joel and start over. She finds help at experimental clinic, where they erase her memory. Joels deals with the situation in the same, decisive way. But in his case, the experiment slips out of doctors´s hands.
Gondry´s directing full of visual ideas and technical finesses, holds the excentric, mixed-up screenplay (mildly put chaos) made by Charlie Kaufman back a little. Visual and intelligent game with our inner world becomes a labyrinth in viewers heads, where with each screening, you have the chance to discover new layers (not only) of the film. Certainly one of the most original motion pictures of the last century.
