This is Kosovo!
Kosovo Artists meets Slovakia
Wednesday – Thursday, 12th – 13th November 2014

Gipsy GrooveYoung, energic but also not so well known and mysterious. We have plenty of opinions about Kosovo in Slovakia but we dont know much about it. However we can change this in October! „This is Kosovo!“ is a project, where the visitiors of 4 Slovak cities (Bratislava, Trenčín, Žilina and Košice) can see photo exhibition, theatre performance, movies and 2 Kosovo bands. They will have also a possibility to talk with artists from Kosovo.

Event is organized by Kosovo Foundation for Open Society (Priština) and Balkans Gateway (Bratislava) in cooperation with KC Dunaj, Klub Lúč, Stanica Žilina-Záriečie and Tabačka Kulturfabrik.

Wednesday 12th November

7 pm theatre play Demolition of the Eiffel Tower
Play in which three actors and one actress represent a total of ten different characters is
a tragicomedy that in several stories tackles religious fundamentalism, terrorism and it
consequences in a globalized world.

9 pm concert Gipsy Groove
Gipsy Groove is the guarantee of an impressive show in which nobody
is left forgotten. Popular Kosovo band offers traditional Balkan Roma music mixed with
Jazz, Reggae, Funk, Ska or DnB. Their performances are charismatic, energetic and often
improvised. The band members are from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and they bring their
cultural diversity as well as their interest in human rights and peace into their performances.

Thursday 13th November

6 pm Movies, interactive exhibition and discussion
The documentary There is Light Inside and short films Column and Balcony reflect
the topics that resonate in nowadays Kosovo. The films have been successful in Kosovo and
in international festivals. Artistic project My name - their city reflects on the policy of national
identity builiding of Albanians of Kosovo mostly in 70ties and 80ties., which gave birth to
a particular phenomenon of naming children after Albania’s towns. Everybody courious can
discuss with Kosovo artists about how the young people see their lives in this for us often
mysterious and not much known country, existence of which is still questioned by some
European countries including Slovakia.

9 pm concert JazzaiR´T
A band that gathers the well established musicians of Kosova‘s rather young
jazz scene. Vastly influenced by jazz, classic music, pop and Balkan traditional music,
JAZZAIR’T brings a set of original compositions that express these influences and ideas. A
group of experienced musicians, whome had played in different bands and formations during
last years, debuted this year with their ‘roots’ album which is scheduled to come out on spring
2015 and is already hailed as one of the most exciting jazz projects in kosova. After a very
succesful performance at “Jazz & Wine festival Albania” in september 2014 JAZZAIR’T are
scheduled to perform in 2015 on jazz festivals in Berlin, Barcelona, Prague and Belgrade
among others.
