Originally classmates and recently teenagers, who proudly settled down among free jazz, noiserock and world music echoes, ambient and many others genres. Try to imagine Sun Ra jamming with Black Flag and Django Reinhardt and maybe you will be close, only add young enthusiasm and no limits.

Michael Coltun had no choice. His father used to play with John Zorn in a berserk fanatic group Naked City, great grandfather used to play in personal russian Tsar’s klezmerband. Himself, since he was seventeen years old he started to learn to play the ngoni led by Cheick Hamala Diabaté - malian virtuoso. So there is no point in wondering why the style of Les Rhinocéros is so hard to define accurately. He set up a band with two classmates in the high school and after their saxofonist left, they decided for the most typical rock formation - guitar, bass guitar, drums-, but don’t expect any classic.

The boss of the label Tzadik John Zorn, unusually was full of praise and enthustiastically fell in love with eponymous debut because of its strictness and young freshness.
