A prečo John Cage? (Y por que John Cage?); Foto: Jordi SurribasBarcelona based Antic Teatre is coming for the first time to Slovakia with their performance. And why John Cage? is fresh and amusing show of two performers playing with sound, body expression and speech they decompose and transform into various forms while they keep connecting everything with physical expression. Final meaninglessness becomes an intention to penetrate into the realm of senses, associations and perception of the performance via spectator’s imagination.

Concept, choreography, performance: Jorge Dutor a Guillem Mont de Palol

And why John Cage? is a theatre study on sound and meaning in a given speech, using the power of the sound of words, sound as structure, as a travelling dynamic. Sensorial rather than meaningful speech. We don’t want to be meaningful; on the contrary, we want to be meaningless in order to penetrate the realms of the senses, of relationships, of perceptions and materialisations. The speech itself can be anything. What we say isn’t important, but how we say it, what musical and choreographic tools we use to break down the text and dive into the performance, insinuating and surfing on the waves of the imagination.

Antic Teatre is an independant culture center based in a historical building from 1650 in the middle of Barcelona. It is focused on independant contemporary theatre, it is a venue dedicated to multidisciplinary art connected to research and development of new theatrical language. Their aim is to support and encourage the experiment, creativity and production; to spread the potencial of professional artists; to enforce exploration of new body and physical language, new dramaturgy and new technologies that are not so widely used in the theatre.

Within the support of performers active in the independent theatre scene, part of the association is also a center for creativity and research, AdriAntic, space for artistic residencies where also performance And why John Cage? has been produced.
