Ches Smith, Xiu Xiu drummer, has performed twice at Stanica - first with contrabassist Devin Hoff as Good for Cows and last year in a solo project Congs for Brums. Even after the first gig, he made a note that it would be gorgeous if Xiu Xiu (that has never been to Slovakia) performed in Žilina. Eventually, this idea came true and ironically, Xiu Xiu’s recent tour is going to be without a drummer .) Slovak band Youcoco will play as a support band before the American highlight.

Throughout the years, Xiu Xiu (Us, Bella Union) has transformed from cultish musical entity sacred within narrow and devoted fanbase to a band whose name is one of the most frequent on the experimental scene. Besides the only fixed group member Jamie Stewart, all others are changing, switching and swaping. Irredeemable voice, dark and sometimes perverse as well as weirdly ironic point of view of their leader is present on every album. The last one titled Dear God I Hate Myself was recorded in 2010. The tour which includes Stanica (or also Subclub in Bratislava or Tabačka in Košice) might be the last where Xiu Xiu will perform in duet formed of Jamie Stewart and Angela Seo (keyboard, percussions).

Youcoco hit the Slovak scene as a fresh wave of simple and straight live music among today’s overelectronized production. Their lo-fi songs are dressed into minimalistic but intensive arrangements. Rough guitar sound, geniously pure rythms, rude vocal and catchy melodies can link you to PJ Harvey, Beat Happening, Liz Phair or The Kills. However their music is influenced also by David Bowie, Stone Roses, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Primal Scream and so forth. The band call themselves as “authentic melodic roar”.

In the beginning, two friends Ria (drums) and Radka (guitar, vocal) formed the band only as a way to spend their free time. Their debut Big Now! was released in June 2010 and the duet became trio, with the bass player Anna. After the drummer left, they are starting to rehearse with a new one called Rudo and work on the new material.
