Memory Kontrol 1989-2009

Tuesday, November 17 - we are starting thematical week called Memory Kontrol 1989-2009 subtitled Always On Alert! From the last week, S2 is decorated with transparents shouting old communistic slogans that are actually installation of Alex Mlynárčik, fine artists. In the same time, Communistic party of Slovakia decorated Žilina with creepy texts like „We are still here after twenty years”. Also this is the reason why we will go through six days filled with discussions, exhibitions, projections, theatre performances, concerts, workshops and site-specific projects which will not be just about remembering but they will be also attempts to critical analysing of period before and after November 89 not only in Slovakia.
We are starting on Tuesday, November 17 at 6pm. Besides Alex Mlynárčik’s installation, we are going to open an exhibition of the American artist Janeil Engelstad - Voices From the Center and first 30 viewers-participants of Fedor Blaščák’s performance will get free entry for the evening concert of Kosa z nosa.
In the program, there is several events especially for high school students who did not experience 1989 on their own skin but we want to let them meet the revolution’s key persons and let them understand what was the life in previous regime like and what Velvet Revolution meant for back-then generation. Ján Budaj, Anton Popovič or Karol Honner, founder of VPN (Verejnosť proti násiliu - Public against violence) and others will be discussing with the students. In the evening, Martin and Zora Butora will come for a debate.
We will present you following theatre performances. Mladosť VB. Citácie z Pamätí Vasiľa Biľaka (Quotations from Memoirs of Vasiľ Biľak) by Czech theatre group Odnož, a dernierre of Classmates - happening produced by Stanica and premiere of international theatre series Liberty! Liberty? which will be climax , of two-year-long prestigious Czech-German-Slovak project 68/89 Theatre.Era.History.
About the film stuff, you will have opportunity to watch documentary “Good morning, Slovakia! Seven months, which changed our lives” initiated by Fedora Gál a Peter Zajac.
