EVS volunteers

mladezvakciiteh_logoStanica is a hosting and sending organisation for the European Voluntary Service (EVS). Thanks to EVS young people aged 18-30 are given the opportunity to work at another organisation in Europe for 6-12  months in different fields (environmental, cultural, social, educational). EVS is part of the EU Programme Youth in Action. All costs during the stay of volunteer abroad such as travel, food, accommodation, insurance, language-training, local transports and pocket-money are covered by EVS.

The European volunteers are known in Stanica - you meet them at the bar, at the ticket desk, in the city with posters and flyers or during the events with a camera in their hands. They do also invisible things - they prepare events, assist our programmers or technicians, sometimes they work on childrens’ workshops, install exhibitions… they are simply ready to give a hand whenever needed. They are learning a lot - to speak Slovak and understand how our independent cultural centre is operating, how the program is created, how we fund raise and identify sources. Some do more, some do less, but they are a big part of Stanica and we enjoy having them around.

mario_bojic_klara_grundsteine_evsSince beginning of EVS in our organisation we have hosted more than 20 young people from the Czech Republic, France, England, Italy, Estonia, Latvia, Germany, Turkey, Belgium… and some of them also have decided to stay in Slovakia - like Ints Plavnieks, our Latvian volunteer from 2008. If you would like to apply to Stanica for EVS, first of all write us an email - the contact person is Katka Ďuricová - katka@stanica.sk or +421908661288. Send us your CV and motivation letter, why exactly Stanica is of interest to you. We will inform you about available placements in the near future or or contact with other questions. You will also have to find a sending organisation, there are hundreds of organisations working with EVS all over Europe, not only in the field of culture.

As we are part of Trans Europe Halles network of cultural centres, we give priority to young people who are active in the centres of this network. To work at Stanica through the network, you need a TEH centre to act as your sending organisation. So please contact your nearest TEH centre. In many cases it’s possible to become engaged in the different activities of the centres on voluntary basis. Once the centre gets to know you they might also be willing to act as your sending organisation.

Within the network we have also realised the project, The Lift (2006-2008), a large number of Trans Europe Halles centres were involved and the experiences from the project have now resulted in a handbook about networking through EVS. To know more about The Lift visit www.teh.net, to see something from volunteers’ life you can download the publication Try Your Wings, TEH also published the entire handbook about EVS, download it here > The Lift Handbook.
