According to the principle, which was discovered by Alessandro Volta in 1799, Oscar and Martina created simple electrical networks together with children. They used salt water in small cups as an electrolyte. After joining several cups the electricity thus generated is sufficient to turn on a calculator or a LED light. Subsequently they replaced the salt water by juice made from the fresh fruits. They connected lemons, potatoes, grapes and nectarines. The most volts were obtained from kiwis. With kiwis they energized the device of a melody card and listened to the melody.

Martina and Oscar tried to transform similarly derived energy into sound signals. “We did a concert with fruit, we wired three hundred pieces of different fruits and vegetables. The energy was transformed into visual and audio outputs, “Martina described. It was the first time they organized the workshop for children. “We wanted to explain to the children that the things that are commonly used at home, or are not usable at all, such as rotten fruit, can still be used to produce energy. I think that in despite of the simple presentation children could understand that energy can be produced also in an alternative way, “she said.
