Private universe (Helena Třeštíková)
projection
Tuesday 25. September 2012, 7pm

Soukromý vesmírHistory of one certain family was recorded by Helena Třeštíková in her, so far, longest time-lapse project. Th film Private universe was in production for 37 years and it captures the life of ordinary czech family members since 70s until the present day. Helena Třeštíková began with her crew to shoot her friend Jana in 1974. Jana was expecting her first child with her husband Peter and actually the life of their son Honza is the main aim of the film. Three children are born and grown in front of the camera, and their parents live through a major part of their lives. If archive footage remind us about artistic career of Karel Gott, important moments of conquering the space, or crucial political changes in our country, Kettner family diaries, which were throughout the whole time carefully kept by the father Peter, offer a private alternative to great history. Kettners and their children aren´t living such a dramatic life, as the previous directors´ movie heros - Marcela, René and Katka. Like thousands of other czech citizens, also Kettners in era of suppressed freedom aimed their attention on their own “private universe”. This fascinating journey through their lives is, thanks to this, a very optimistic and touching testimony, about an important role of the family, unique and colourful human life and the never-ending search for its purpose.
