Projection of a documentary comedy by Ondřej Vavrečka with his presence. The End, Finiteness and Death are the main themes here. And since Ultimum Refugium means “last refuge” in latin, the film is a place where the meaning and way of life, which can respond on finiteness and death accordingly, is wanted. Through a panorama of political, economical and meteorological events, we are deeper entering the nature of finitness question and death. The film goes from public and general problem and events to cocrete and intimate ones (going to pension, fall out with a partner, aging woman).

The movie uses a poetic method of connecting seemingly disparate and remote motives, which makes hidden contexts, forming a philosophical web of our world, to appear. For example the visit of russian and american president to Prague castle is joint by a prize ceremony for best infant mask in the city Sázava.

A lenghty essay Ultimum Refugium (138 min.) became a personal confession made of many multi-layered meanings. The viewer, who embarks onto this intricate search, finds a catharsis at the very end in common, everyday gestures such as whistling, eating and immediate seeing of things. Despite the End, Finiteness and Death are not leaving the scene of life, they lost their deadly eeriness.
